SUBJUNCTIVE



Subjunctive adalah suatu tata bahasa yang mengungkapkan suatu pengharapan yang biasanya bertentangan dengan kenyataan sebenarnya.

Jenis-jenis subjunctive, yaitu:


1.     SUBJUNCTIVE AFTER WISH

  • ·         PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE

S1 + Wish + S2 + Verb2

Examples:
  1.   I wish he were here now.
     (The fact: He is not here now.)
  2.   He wishes they kept healthy every time.
     (The fact: They don’t keep healthy every time.)
 3.    They wish I came back.
      (The fact: I don’t come back.)
 4.    Danny wishes she were beside him now.
     (The fact: She isn’t not beside him now.)

  • ·         FUTURE SUBJUNCTIVE
S1 + Wished + S2 + Past Perfect

Examples:
1.  She wished she had gone to England.
     (The fact: She didn’t go to England.)
2.  They wished they had met their parents.
     (The fact: They didn’t meet their parents.)
3.   I wish I had understood what he told yesterday.
     (The fact: I didn’t understand what he told yesterday.)


2.     SUBJUNCTIVE AFTER AS IF / AS THOUGH

Subjunctive after “as if/as though” adalah subjunctive yang biasanya memakai kata kerja pengantar dalam kalimatnya. Kata kerja yang dipakai biasanya act, behave, look, etc.

  • ·         PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE
S1 + Verb 1 + As If/As though + S2 + V2

Examples:
1.   She looks as though she gave a nice performance.
      (The fact: She doesn’t give a nice performance.)
2.   He acts as if he knew English perfecting.
      (The fact: He doesn’t know English perfecting.)
3.   They treat us as if we were all stupid persons.
      (The fact: We are not stupid persons.)
4.   He loves her as though she were a beautiful princess.
      (The fact: She is not a beautiful princess.)


  • ·         PAST SUBJUNCTIVE
S1 + V2 + As if/As though + Had + V3

Examples:
1.   He acted as if he had owned this place.
     (The fact: He didn’t own this place.)
2.  She talked as though she had gone around the world.
     (The fact: She didn’t go around the world.)
3.  I behaved as if I had had a lot of money.
     (The fact: I didn’t have a lot of money.)
4.  They acted as though they had known me.
     (The fact: They didn’t know me.)
